Privacy policy
Last updated: 7 November 2026
Farepal helps people going the same way find each other and share one licensed taxi. This policy explains what we collect, who can see it, who processes it for us and how long we keep it.
Who we are. Farepal is published by Jyosan Labs, Ireland. Contact: [email protected].
Your account
You sign in with Apple, Google or a code sent to your email address.
- What we store: your email address (with Sign in with Apple this can be a private relay address), an identifier for your account, and the name Apple or Google shares when you first sign in. That name is only used to suggest your first name and last initial when you set up your profile.
- Why: to let you sign in and keep your trips, requests and chats together.
- Legal basis: the contract with you for the service.
Your profile
- What other people see: your first name, last initial, photo (if you add one), short bio (if you write one), when you joined, and your reliability record (trips completed, no-shows and late cancellations).
- Your photo is stored so that other Farepal users can see it. Anyone who has the link to it can open it.
- Age and house rules: we record when you confirmed you are 18 or older and accepted the house rules.
Your contact details
You give a mobile number, and optionally an email address, so your trip group can reach you on the day.
- Who sees them: only the people on a trip once the host has accepted you (or, if you host, once you accept them). Nobody browsing trips sees them.
- Why: so the group can call, message or email each other to meet up. This is the core of the service.
Trips, requests and alerts
- When you post a trip: your start and end addresses, the route between them, the time window, seats, bags and any flight number or note. Other users see only an area name for each end (for example "Rathmines, Dublin 6"), the time, seats, bags, flight number and note. Exact addresses and the route are shown only to people you accept.
- When you search or ask to join: the pickup and drop-off you choose are used to find trips along the way. A request stores your pickup and drop-off and your message to the host. The host sees the area names and your message; the exact addresses only after accepting you.
- Saved alerts store the places, days and times you chose, so we can tell you about new matching trips.
- Address search: what you type in a place search is sent through our server to Google Maps Platform to suggest addresses and work out routes. Google receives the search text and places, not your account details.
- Farepal does not use your phone's location.
Chat, feedback, reports and blocks
- Trip chat: messages you send in a trip are stored and shown to the other people on that trip.
- After a trip: people say whether each other showed up, and can give a thumbs up or down. This updates the reliability record on profiles. If people say someone didn't show up on two trips within 90 days, that account is paused while we look into it.
- Reports: if you report someone, we store the reason, any details you add, the trip and, for a reported message, a copy of that message. We review reports by hand and may pause or close accounts that break the house rules.
- Blocks: we store who you blocked, so neither of you sees the other's trips, requests or messages.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping Farepal safe and reliable for everyone.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your phone and send notifications about your trips: join requests and replies, chat messages (with a short preview of the message), saved-alert matches, reminders to reconfirm, trip changes and the after-trip question. You can turn most of them off in Profile → Notifications, or turn all of them off in your phone's settings. Reminders and trip changes can't be turned off inside the app, because missing them can leave someone without a taxi.
Permissions
- Photos: only when you choose a profile photo.
- Notifications: asked once during setup; optional.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data, show ads, track you across other apps or websites, or handle payments. Farepal never sees how much anyone pays for a taxi.

|---|---|---|
| Supabase (database and accounts, hosted in Ireland) | Everything described above | Running the service |
| Google Maps Platform | Place search text, addresses, coordinates | Address suggestions, routes and maps |

| Expo, Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) | Push token, notification text | Delivering notifications |
| Apple Maps (iPhone) / Google Maps (Android) | Map requests from your phone | Showing the map in a trip |

Some providers process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, they use safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep data
- Your account, profile, contact details, trips, requests, alerts, chats and push tokens: until you delete your account. Deleting it removes them, including the messages you sent and your profile photo.
- Reports: reports made about you are kept for 12 months, even if you delete your account, so we can deal with safety problems. Reports you made stay for the same time without your name on them.
- Notification records: deleted after 30 days.
- Backups and logs: deleted data can stay in our providers' backups and technical logs for up to 30 days.
Your rights
You can see and change your profile and contact details in the app, and delete your account in Profile → Delete account (or ask us to: see Delete your account). You can also ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or object to how we use it, by emailing [email protected]. You can complain to Ireland's Data Protection Commission (www.dataprotection.ie).
Children
Farepal is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly allow anyone younger to use it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app when the change matters.
